How to give your team a definition of what it means to be a team player.

What does it even mean to be a team player? Well, give your team a definition. Now when I’m doing a strategic offsite with an executive team I love to use Patrick Lencioni’s humble hungry smart. But why not do this with your team? Ask your team to think about a great teammate that they’ve worked with in the past. Have them write down words to describe that teammate, the behaviors, the attitudes, the attributes that they exhibited like being humble and then have a discussion as a team which of these do we want to adopt for our team? That’s a great way to get some buy-in and talk about what it means to be a team player on this team.
